Why I can’t stand with Wendy Davis on Texas SB5 bill (re-posted from 400 Words for Women)

“Surely we can do better for women.” This re-post from the blog 400 Words for Women is the best short answer I’ve found to the recent antics in Texas, where abortion advocates disrupted a legislative session in order to block a bill to stop post-20-week abortions.

400 Words for Women

supporting wendy davis you are supportingAs a feminist, I can’t stand with Wendy Davis and those who oppose the SB5 (now SB9 and HB2). I’m 22 weeks pregnant and what these people are saying is that it’s fine to violently stop my baby’s life right now by introducing a needle in his heart or by poisoning his amniotic fluid; then start 24 hours of unnatural, agonizing labor in order to tear a dead or severely wounded child from the safety of my womb. They are also saying that women injured in this dangerous procedure shouldn’t receive emergency care.
Surely we can do better for women.
